Useful Political Discourse: Colin Powell Endorses Obama
October 21, 2008
Whether you support McCain or Obama, this is a well-spoken and nicely considered endorsement. Thank you Mr. Powell, for taking a moment to upgrade political discourse at a time when it has sunk low. Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama.

Gen. Powell’s endorsement may be the first I’ve heard in this election that was eloquently based on sound logic and his way of viewing the world. What an incredible answer to a very loaded question.
HBR has a piece on just what made his response so perfect.

I so admire Colin Powell! I read a book he wrote (altho’ I can’t remember if it was American Journey or Have a Vision) and was just really impressed. I was disappointed that he was dragged into the whole WMD debacle of thrusting us into war with Iraq, but thought Bill Maher’s take was probably pretty close to the truth: he probably said to himself, “…if I resign, then only the nuts are left.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbhYK4wM-vg — he starts his comments on Colin Powell at about 4:40, but the whole interview makes you think and makes you laugh…regardless of whether or not you like Bill Maher — I’m a little ambivalent about him myself. He’s a bit crass for my tastes.).
